5 Herbal Teas for Anxiety

In an ever changing world we are all struggling with anxiety. Whether it be occasional battles or a daily dose we are constantly facing anxiety. The worst part about it is that your body doesn’t know the difference between good stress or bad stress. So, when you're excited about something great happening for the first time or mad about something going wrong for the millionth time. Your body deals with anxiety the same way no matter how great or awful it may be. This is why I’m always looking for healthy ways to cope with stress. I have never truly been a coffee drinker but teas are definitely my jam. So when I discovered I could aid my mental health with the right brew I welcomed the idea with open arms. 

Tea #1: Digestive Tea Blend

If you're anything like me your stomach is often a predictor of your stress levels. This blend helps with nervous digestion that causes cramps, bloating, indigestion, and nausea. 

¼ cup catnip

¼ cup lemon balm

¼ cup chopped ginger root

  1. Combine the dry herbs into one container.

  2. 1 teaspoon of herbs to every 10 ozs of water

  3. Boil and steep for 5-7 minutes

  4. Best after meal and used up to 3 times a day

  5. Remaining combined herbs last for about a year if kept in a cool dry place. (Makes for about 15 servings)


Tea #2: Clear Thoughts Tea Blend 

When you get stuck in your thoughts and your mind keeps racing until you feel worn out. This tea is here to help you recover and energize your mind. 

The first part of this tea is a syrup made of: 

1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger

1 tablespoon rhodiola

6 oz of water

⅓ cup of honey

For the tea blend use:

¼ cup rosemary

¼ cup astragalus

¼ cup peppermint

  1. Reduce the ginger, rhodiola, and water mixture to about half on medium-high heat.

  2. Strain and add honey.

  3. Store by refrigerating in a container for up to 3 months. (Makes for about 30 servings)

To make tea:

  1. Combine the rosemary, astragalus, and peppermint into one container.

  2. 1 teaspoon of herbs to every 10 ozs of water.

  3. Boil and steep for 5 minutes.

  4. Add syrup.

  5. Tea blend should last about a year if kept in a cool dry place. 

Tea #3: Balance Tea Blend

This tea is great for those times when you’re feeling cranky and can’t quite put your finger on why you just know that mood is starting to manifest itself in your body. For those days when the anxiety is now living in your shoulder and creeping its way like a vine up your neck. 

½ cup nettle (diuretic and supports the adrenals)

¼ cup mimosa bark (lifts mood)

½ cup lemon balm (calms nerves)

¼ cup catnip (calms nerves and tummy) 

1 tablespoon ginger powder (soothes tummy and pain)

Honey and Lemon are tasty but totally optional

  1. Combine all dry ingredients into one container.

  2. 1 teaspoon of herbs to every 10 ozs of water.

  3. Boil and steep for 5-7 minutes.

  4. Add honey and lemon if you’d like.

  5. Store the tea blend in a dry cool place for up to a year. (About 50 serving)

Tea #4: Pick-Me-Up Tea Blend

When the energy of the day isn’t easy and you have to see it through, this tea is a great way to brush off all the negative vibes and pick yourself back up from all that intense and overwhelming energy. Taking a moment to sip and breathe with this tea always helps me.

2 tablespoons ashwagandha

2 tablespoons mimosa bark

2 tablespoons peppermint 

¼ cup holy basil

¼ cup lemon balm

  1. Combine dry ingredients into one container. 

  2. 1 ½ tablespoons to 10 ozs of water

  3. Boil and steep for 7-10 minutes

  4. Honey and lemon if you’d like.

  5. Store tea blend in a cool dry place for up to a year. (Makes 25 servings)

Tea #5: Build-Me-Up Tea Blend

This tea helps me gather the strength to tackle things I prefer not to face. Anxiety takes a toll on our immune system. This tea is designed to help you feel grounded and supported while nursing your immune system. 

¼ cup echinacea (aerial parts)

¼ cup astragalus

¼ cup thyme

¼ eleuthero root

½ cup elderberries

Honey and Lemon (optional)

  1. Combine dry ingredients into one container. 

  2. 1 teaspoon to 10 ozs of water

  3. Boil and steep for 5-7 minutes

  4. Add Honey and Lemon if you’d like

  5. Store tea blend in a cool dry place for up to a year
